Vertigo is a sensation that you or your surroundings are spinning or moving when there is no actual movement.
It's a symptom rather than a condition itself and is often related to problems in the inner ear or brain.
Vertigo could come either once in a lifetime or it could be recurrent (returning).
• Tiny crystals (made of calcium) in inner ear become displaced (BPPV)
• Inner ear infections or inflammation
• Fluid build up in inner ear, also known as Meniere's disease
• Migraine associated vertigo
• Less commonly, strokes, tumors, head injuries
• Spinning/titling feeling
• Nausea/vomiting
• Loss of balance/unsteadiness
• Abnormal sweating
• Less commonly, hearing loss or ringing in ear
Need to consult ENT, that he will do a comprehensive examination including specific balance test to define source of vertigo and arrange the suitable treatment plan
• Treatment relies on good diagnose done by ENT consultation
• May be series of movements and activities which help inner ear and brain work together to treat BPPV, guiding crystals back to rightful place( Epley maneuver).
• Medications to relieve dizziness, nausea, and inflammation such as antihistamines
• Surgery as a last option.
• If you have frequent episodes of vertigo, a consult is needed to determine if there is an underlying health condition
• If it gets to a point where vertigo is affecting quality of life and prevents ability to perform certain tasks.
